Business Development Manager (PTL Marine/Maxum Petroluem) - Southern California

Since 1936, Pilot Thomas Logistics and its family of marine companies (collectively, "PTL Marine") including Radcliff/Economy Marine Services and Maxum Petroleum have been providing quality products and services to the barge transportation industry. PTL Marine is the one-stop shopping solution for all of your Marine Fuel and Lubes, Groceries, Supplies and Last-Mile Logistics needs.Responsible for directing and coordinating activities of the Operations Team to obtain optimum efficiency, economy of operations and maximize profits.

Position Summary:

Leads the new business creation process for either a designated account to break or expand into a geographic region or an industry. Working with the Account Managers, the Business Management Director will develop and manage a sales process and pipeline to introduce Pilot Thomas Logistics (PTL) portfolio of products and services to new business prospects. This position is a significant driver of new profitable business growth for PTL.

There is only one position and the candidate can reside in (Southern California) - Long Beach, CA; Los Angeles, CA or Phoenix, AZ. Apply to the location that you reside closest to.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and grow new relationships for PTL.
  • Leads day to day sales and commercial activities with strong lubricant focus.
  • Leverage relationships to make new sales proposals for incremental growth in product and services.
  • Lead local proposal development and customer conversion for Wholesale segment in So. Cal. and central / southern Arizona.
  • Develop account strategies and ensure successful delivery of new business.
  • Create unique value for prospective customers by seeking to understand their business problems, issues and opportunities in new or different ways.
  • Optimize the team within the geographic area to ensure complete customer satisfaction from presales through post sales.
  • Focus on prospects where PTL's strength in our distribution network can differentiate us from our competition and deliver value and profitable growth.
  • Provide market intelligence on customers and industries.
  • Develop new account objectives to maintain/grow volumes while increasing margins.
  • Create unique value for prospective customers by seeking to understand their business problems, issues and opportunities in new or different ways.
  • Focus on prospects where PTL's strength in our distribution network can differentiate us from our competition and deliver value and profitable growth.
  • Provide managerial leadership and directs the selection, supervision and evaluation of staff.
  • Develops and maintains up to date Account Planners for Top 10-15 accounts in all segments.
  • Enters and Maintains up to date records and account sales progress in company CRM.
  • Provides training and motivation to make use of individual capabilities.

Other Functions:

  • Special projects as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Position reports to Scot C. (Vice President National Lubricants)

Minimum Requirements:

  • 7+ years progressively responsible experience in similar industry, at least 5 years at a manager level.
  • Experience selling at the senior management levels with a proven track record of routinely closing deals that are mutually beneficial to the customer and the company.
  • Strong listening and presentation skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and writing communications skills.
  • Adhere to, participate and provide leadership regarding marketing plan. Demonstrate meaningful year after year profitable growth and geographic expansion.
  • Able to develop goals and objectives and to implement critical and complex planning activities.
  • Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance or Marketing or a combination of education and/or experience in lieu of degree preferred

Working Conditions:

  • This position requires working in a remote setting with 80-85% of time being spent in the field working with customers. Some overnight travel required..
  • Must be able to stand, bend, push and pull at least up to 10 lbs.
