Director, Fleet Repair & Maintenance - Grapevine, TX

Responsible for leading the activities of the maintenance department to ensure that fleet and heavy equipment are available, dependable and safe at all times.  Oversees the maintenance and preventative maintenance program and ensures compliance with corporate policies and government regulations.  This role includes establishing processes & procedures for monitoring equipment expenses in fuel consumption, maintenance, and repair. Conducts analysis of maintenance costs, trends, best practices and technology and identifying and implementing opportunities to maximize fuel economy through changes in specifications and identifying poor driver habits. Leads in fulfilling its mission to enter into operation, maintain, account for, and remove from operation of all organization fleet assets in the most cost effective, safe, reliable, and efficient manner possible.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provides the principal analysis, rationalization, leadership, organizational skill and execution to optimize the use of fleet assets while providing superior customer service.
  • Monitors the design and administration of vehicle inspection and safety programs to reduce unexpected maintenance costs and vehicle downtime.
  • Oversees the preparation of the annual budget; controls the use of all resources such as personnel, funds, and materials.
  • Analyzes maintenance costs and provide recommendations on fleet utilization and replacement.
  • Tracks fleet usage and maintain accurate inventory of equipment.
  • Integrates technology to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Assists in the development of maintenance budget by providing input relative to policy, costs and established metrics.
  • Ensures the maintenance records for fleet are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Negotiates service agreements to ensure cost efficiencies.
  • Completes performance reviews of staff and jointly determine areas of development and training requirements.
  • Communicates maintenance requirements to ensure maximum efficiency and implement correction actions as required.
  • Participates in the recruitment and selection of maintenance personnel as required.
  • Identifies maintenance employee training requirements and ensure successful completion.
  • Prepares management reporting as required.
  • Oversees the requisitioning of repair parts, fuels, lubricants, supplies and tools required for garage operations; coordinates with purchasing on prices of parts and equipment.
  • Key metrics of management:
    1. Overall Repair costs for entire Corporate Fleet (Energy, MMI, EBS, Cardlock)
    2. Repair Cost per Mile for Wholesale Fleet
    3. Repair Cost per Engine Hour for Frac Fleet
    4. Mechanic Production Efficiencies and Labor cost/mi.
    5. 3rd party use Cost/mi and Cost/hr.

Other Functions:

  • Special projects as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Valid and current driver’s license.
  • Have and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • 10+ years of recent experience in petroleum products supply, transportation/logistics and operations with a nationally recognized business, preferably in oil, gas, or energy field.
  • Experience with execution and management of multi-location operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the transportation and distribution industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Hours of Service management and Department of Transportation Regulations.
  • Track record of effectively recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce.
  • Expertise in personnel and employee relations with a record of positive, equitable administration.
  • Any combination of education and experience that qualifies an applicant may be considered in lieu of the specific criteria listed above.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with major work in business administration, management, public administration, engineering technology, industrial distribution or a closely related field; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Possession of a current fleet certification such as Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) or Certified Public Fleet Professional (CPFP) or leadership involvement in a professional fleet management association preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Extended schedule may be required as dictated by management and business needs.
  • May be required to lift, push, or pull materials weighing up to twenty (20) pounds.
  • May be required to sit and review information on a computer screen for long period of time.
  • May require repetitive motions of the hands and wrist related to writing and typing at an electronic keyboard.
