Position Summary:
As the Sr. Tax Manager for Pilot Thomas Logistics (PTL), you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's income tax compliance and strategy. This role requires extensive experience in income tax planning, compliance, and reporting, particularly in a complex ownership structure with special allocations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tax fixed asset accounting and possess the ability to navigate intricate tax regulations within the petroleum industry. Moreover, meaningful experience with Subchapter K of the Internal Revenue Code governing taxation of partnerships and multi-state taxation is essential for this position.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize the company's tax position while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including Subchapter K considerations for partnerships and multi-state tax implications.
- Manage the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local income tax returns, including consolidated returns for the company and its subsidiaries, while addressing multi-state filing requirements.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors and auditors to review and analyze tax returns, ensuring accuracy and completeness, and providing guidance on Subchapter K and multi-state tax matters.
- Oversee tax planning initiatives to minimize tax liabilities and maximize cash flow, including tax credits, deductions, and incentives available to the petroleum industry across multiple jurisdictions.
- Provide guidance and support to finance and accounting teams on tax-related matters, including quarterly and annual tax provisions, accruals, and disclosures, with a focus on Subchapter K and multi-state tax implications.
- Conduct research on tax issues and developments affecting the petroleum distribution industry, interpreting and communicating their implications to senior management.
- Manage tax audits and inquiries from regulatory authorities, including responding to information requests and negotiating settlements when necessary.
- Stay abreast of changes in tax legislation and regulations, evaluating their potential impact on the company's tax position and advising on necessary adjustments.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as legal, operations, and supply chain, to address tax implications of business transactions and initiatives.
