Tax License Analyst (Fuel/Sales) - Dallas/Fort Worth/Grapevine TX

This role is responsible for assisting with the timely oversight and/or preparation, filing, and payment of sales, use, excise, and other transaction tax returns on a monthly, quarterly and/or annual basis including associated general ledger account reconciliations. The person will work directly with our Compliance Tax Manager and our out-sourced tax services partners to ensure accuracy and completeness of returns. Additionally, one must research and resolve tax issues resulting from tax jurisdiction notices, customer inquiries, and/or inquiries from internal departments.

Additionally will be responsible for annual renewal of federal, state, and local licenses; as well as application for new state licenses, as applicable; updates management on changes to tax laws and any impact it may have on the organization; required to coordinate with other departments to quickly resolve escalated issues.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the timely filing of monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns for department-prepared, as well as our out-sourced financial services partners.
    • Including payment of and accounting for all related tax liabilities.
    • Maintenance of tax related records.
    • Develop and implement strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state taxes.
  • Maintain current licensing status report for all fuel and sales tax licenses, including renewal processes and required information.
  • Maintain active bond report for all tax related bond renewals, cancellations, and replacements.
  • Manage tax exemption certificate process during customer onboarding and on an annual basis.
  • Assist with IRS, state, and local tax audits for sales tax, use tax, excise tax, and other business-related taxes.
  • Maintain knowledge and proficiency in current federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Research on technical matters and special projects.
  • Find, design, and implement processes to improve company tax procedures.
  • Respond to related tax correspondence, research issues.
  • Complete periodic reconciliation of tax accrual accounts.
  • Assist the accounting department during month-end close, as well as bank and external audits.
  • Assist the Treasury department with review and input of wire payments.

Other Functions:

  • Special projects as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires prior 2 years' experience in accounting, treasury, or tax. Motor fuel tax compliance is preferred.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office applications. Experience with Sage's ERP software is a plus.
  • Strong customer service orientation and issue resolution skills.
  • Experience working in fast growth environments.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • May be required to sit and review information on a computer screen for long periods of time.
  • May require repetitive motions of the hands and wrist related to writing and typing at an electronic keyboard.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift as much as ten (10) lbs.
